Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
Hello Ladies,
I''m a newbee starting today and am glad to meet you all from a little town in Virginia. Today is a new day for me...a new beginning sounds repetitive, but often I find we need to repeat to ourselves the inspirational words to keep going like the little engine..."I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!"
Setting up this page takes more energy to the computer dumb and I'm exhausted by the simple process it is supposed to be. I would rather plan and construct a quilt.
Anyway, on to the point. Today is a beautiful Fall day full of promise and many projects on the list to be started and completed. Fall is my "New Year" and the state of mind that causes me to pause and reflect and plan for the next 12 months. I always feel re-energized and excited and anticicipate changes. It seems that the harvest theme for this season causes me to go into planning mode as well as finish mode (harvesting in a way).
With that in mind, I feel inclined to share a wonderful experience that I believe is providential to my new beginning. Sunday night I shed an old skin, so to speak, that was itching to be removed. With that gone, I had an open calendar and opportunities to explore. Well...Monday morning I went into a new quilting store and who walked up beside me but an old friend I haven't seen or crossed paths with in 15 years. It was just as though we saw each other last week...didn't miss a beat. Then Tuesday I went to Joann's Fabric store, and while trying to coordinate fabrics...I met a new friend. I can't wait to see what today brings!
And as a last note and view into my little world...My hens are crowing and cackling like they are having a party. It's been raining for a few days and you can imagine the bug harvest out there this morning! If I could speak hen I believe they would be singing praises and thanksgiving songs. They are a joyous flock indeed. And...someone left an egg on my back porch. I don't know why she does that but every few days she decides to bless me up close and personal. I guess she wants to stand out in the crowd?

Comment by sue brigle on October 20, 2012 at 2:57pm Hi Carol, I'm fairly new here too, and haven't been here very often, but I always enjoy the company when I do get the chance to be here. Looking forward to getting to know you better and hearing about your quilting projects and perhaps seeing some pictures?
I love fabric stores, quilts shows, scrapbooking and journalling. I love to make quilts, read any kind of book and look through quilting magazines. I'm thinking about retiring, but haven't completely made up my mind about when yet. I'm a nurse at a small hospital, and everyone there seems like family, so it isn't so much like going to work as it is going to be w/friends and family.
Hope to hear more from you soon...............Sue
Comment by Faye Embry Conley on October 13, 2012 at 3:26pm Hi my name is Faye, from Kansas City, me and my friend Susan are taking a Rag quilt class Monday. I am new to quilting, and I am starting to decorate me a sewing room. It is all so exciting. In Nov I am taking quilting 101, I know that is a bit backwards but I am just so excited to get started. I am hoping to make new friends, and get tons of support..lol
Comment by Carol Lee Hargrave Mitchell on October 11, 2012 at 9:38pm Just wanted to say, Colette, transition is an excellent opportunity. Imagine the possibilities and think like you are a little girl again dreaming of what you want to be when you grow up...fortunately there is tomorrow morning to start anew and plan anew. (I like to have several plans though...Plan A, B, C, and maybe even a Plan D just in case I run up against a hill or two.) Hope to hear of your exploits.
Comment by Carol Lee Hargrave Mitchell on October 11, 2012 at 9:32pm Well...This is to honor all you paper piecers out there. Took a class tonight and I have to say my shoulders are hunched, neck strained and my head is pounding...It's hard! Or...I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack. It seemed to be rocket science like to me. Finally got the routine down and the end result is beautiful. We made a star sorta block called ("something? Beauty"). If I can figure out photos, I'll post one. Tomorrow promises to be another gorgeous (that was said with a Long Island accent btw for emphasis) day. Have a good one ladies!
