Returning to the UFO list

I have started finishing the hand quilting on a workshop piece from 2004.

In the meantime I was playing with hearts and made too many - so I have quilt labels and hearts for quick gifts down the road....I started playing with the disappearing 4 patch blocks in pinks & purples - grand daughter's favorite colors - her birthday is in June...  So I will make her a lap sized quilt...  I think I have a Problem!   The hearts were addicting and the fast completion of the 4 patch blocks is…

cut through technique

I was on Pinterest and saw a quilt made using the cut-through technique.  It appeared on a Nancy Crow site.  I have searched and haven't found information regarding the technique.  I don't know if it is a cutting and sewing technique or merely a name for the appearance of the block.  Below is a picture of the block, attributed to Ellin Larimer.  Can anyone help?  Thanks,  Diana…

Current activity:

Well a lot has happened since last I posted anything!  We had to put our 80 acre ranch up for sale & are currently in Apache Junction, AZ looking for a place of our own.  It's proving more difficult than we had anticipated; Tom, my husband needs a 'shop' and I need a "studio"  in a newer  home but so far have not been able to find one that suits 'both' of us.  Either he is satisfied & I am not, or vise a versa.  But we will continue to look.  You may recall that Tom had built me a…

He went home for Christmas

It is with profound sadness that I write to tell you of the death of my father, Gene Edward Long, 82, who died peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of December 23, 2015.  He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Rest in peace,…

I walk, I talk, I push creativity!

The gallery show has been up for about a month now and last week, Saint Vincent College (where the McCarl Coverlet Gallery is located) did an alumni spotlight video of me.  Here it is!  I hope you enjoy it.

Math. It’s not just for students.

It’s interesting to see the mathematical concepts that we learned in school put to good use…quilting use, that is! Elaine Krajenke Ellison makes one of a kind quilts communicating her love of mathematics and quilting. She’s a retired high school teacher who now teaches quilters. She also teaches future teachers how to use quilts as a visual introduction to geometric concepts.

Remember the Pythagorean…
