Digging your own Home

Our family doesn’t have a photo of the original dugout dug in 1868 that was on the “Butter in the Well” farm, so here’s a photo from Kansas Memory to give you a visual view to contemplate while reading a passage from my book …

Tile Quilt

I have had lots of comments about Guy's quilt. I have Kaffe Fassett's Patchwork book and there is an example in it with good instructions. However i get to do my own thing and changed the unit size, and used more colours. I thought it would be a good way to use up my scraps but don't be fooled. The cutting can be complicated and matching the seams and angles can test you. You must cut and sew accurately and square off each unit before you set it out and make up the final quilt top. I love…

New Projects and Rewards!

So, I've managed to get some projects done recently. My niece in law tells me the quilt I made her daughter matches perfectly and is much loved. That makes me very happy. Also, I took everyone's advice and gave myself a reward. A brand new pair of boots, complete with buckles and furry trim. $10 at UrbanOG, they have the best daily deals..especially if you're a shoe collector like me.…

My very first quilt...

As a newbie, both here and as a quilter, I'm still working on how to get around the website, to post comments, add photos, etc.  When my SO bought me a new sewing machine, and then suggested that I could now make something for him, the only thing that came to mind was something for his home.  So, I decided on a quilt!  This is my very first quilt, and it's been full steam ahead ever since!  Thanks in advance to the experienced quilters here who may answer some extremely silly/dumb "newbie"…

Princess quilt for little sister

Little sister loves all things pink and princess- this was a difficult quilt for her mom to help plan, she does NOT like pink princessy stuff! The princess blocks have glitter.  I understand this twin size quilt is dragged everywhere around the house by it's 2 year old recipient.  So nice to know she and her…

Commissioned by Santa

Christmas gift commissioned by Santa for a friend's 4 year old son who wouldn't stay in his own bed. Since Christmas he's stayed in his own bed all night.  It was fun to design (with help from my color blind husband) this outer space quilt.  The stars in the center glow in the dark. We really weren't sure…

Custom-made tote bags

I gave a friend a tote bag for Christmas and she immediately asked me if I could make 2 more - in different color combos than what I had done for her.  She said she would pay me :).  So I found some 10" squares of fabric in the colors she wanted.  As the tote bags are made with 5" squares, the 10" packs are ideal for this tote bag.

The fabric arrived, I calculated my costs (fabric, interfacing, etc) and gave her a price.  She's agreed to the price.  So I've begun making the tote…

Practice Makes Perfect

Several years ago, I was working on yet another quilt top and realized, I really didn't finish very many, if any at all. I asked myself why and I decided it was because I was my own worst critic. I was telling myself that they weren't perfect and therefore not good enough to be completed. The second thing I was telling myself was, I didn't really know how to do that part, so I couldn't finish it....I had never attempted that part before, surely I wouldn't do it right.

Then one weekend…

Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest

The Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest was a smashing success even though we forgot about the quilt budget and went over.  We just couldn't help it, so many pretty things!  Lots and lots of batiks and lovely kits.  I had a great time and taking the Cottonwood bus over was wonderful, didn't have to drive (or buy gas).  It was a great day!

Antique String-Pieced Eight-Pointed Star

I just finished making this replica of an Antique String-Pieced Eight-Pointed Star. The pattern is from Circa 1890 according "Scrap Patchwork & Quilting " by Marti Michell published in 1992 .  I made it by pulling material from my scrap bag. I wish my scrap bag would get smaller but it just seems to grow. Oh well…

My last two quilts.

Hi, friends!

How have you been? I would like to show you my last quilts.

"Playing in circles". Lots of animals and freehand quilting. And "A day in the country". Toile de jouy and roses to pay homage to true love.

I hope to hear from you, comments, opinion, criticism. I want to learn from you.

Thanks,

Best wishes from Argentina.

Payday!

A commissioned quilt top finished and ready to mail. I love that feeling and it means in a few days I'll have some money.  The only thing about these tops I don't like is that I don't get to choose the fabric. OH well.…

RECOMMENDED QUILT SHOPS

I will be traveling from Delaware to Colorado in the spring and I'm looking for recommendations of quilt shops that are on the way and close to major highways.  We are planning to stop in Worthington, OH, Indianapolis, St Louis, Abilene, Highlands Ranch, CO, Ft Collins, CO our our trip west.  Our route back home will have us stopping in Rapid City, SD, Des Moines, IA, Cinncinnati, OH and back to Delaware.

If anyone knows of some nice shops in those areas, I would love to know about…

cold wet Saturday

Well it's a cold, wet, Saturday and I'm spending my time between finishing up a baby quilt and checking out all the blogs and info on the internet. Life is good. Below is the baby girl one I'm working on now. And a frog quilt for my  Sister-in-law's Great-grandson. …

Why blue gets a bum rap.

Anyone that looks through my stash, will immediately know that blue is my favorite color. I have fabrics in sky blue, light blue, dark blue, lots of royal blue (oh how I love the deep royal blues!) and everything in between. When I first started quilting I just bought lots and lots of blue, because I loved it so much. So I thought that was what I needed to buy all of the time.

As I have matured (both in age and in experience as a quilter) my stash has grown to include many other…
