Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest

The Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest was a smashing success even though we forgot about the quilt budget and went over. We just couldn't help it, so many pretty things! Lots and lots of batiks and lovely kits. I had a great time and taking the Cottonwood bus over was wonderful, didn't have to drive (or buy gas). It was a great day!
Convex vs concave

So I have completed my first New York Beauty, I'll post pictures tomorrow. So, let's review, what did we learn? We learned that concave is easier than convex. I'm going to try a 9 inch block next time instead of a 6 inch block, maybe bigger will be easier. And the other thing I learned? If I'd have known I was going to quilt this much I would have paid more attention in geometry in high school. Whew! Convex, concave, 45 degree angles, who knew?!

I made four New York Beauty blocks tonight and it wasn't so bad. Not as hard as I thought it would be and only had to tear out one block and start over. I paper pieced the middle of the blocks and then added the inner circle and the outer border. Found that if you cut the inner and outer circle if you cut them a little bit bigger than what you need it's easy to trim down and make it the correct size.

I've hit a wall...it happens sometimes. I've been quilting for about 30 years and pretty much try to sew at least 20-30 minutes each day. I do sell tops on Ebay, just the little tops, paper pieced, 18 inches square, 3 inch blocks and that's fun, if I didn't I would be a hoarder and would probably be on that horrid TV show but Ebay helps me keep the tops down to a dull roar. So, anyway, I sometimes just can't get the creativity flowing and I just kind of sit and stare at the sewing…

Just wanted to pop in to say “hello” and introduce myself. I’m Linda Hubalek, fellow quilter and author from Kansas. Books about pioneer women are my specialty, with a cooking or a quilting theme mixed into each historical fiction series.
