Do you have trouble with thread slipping out of take-up lever?

At home , I use a Janome, which has never given me this problem, but in my RV, I use an old White Jeans machine. I've had the annoying problem of the thread slipping out of the slot in take-up lever…Continue

Hi Riana,

I'm so envious that you are able to have fun exercising - golf is a great way to enjoy being outside.

My hip is O.K. and not bothering me but I have bursitis.  It is so bad that I cannot lie on that side and it hurts down my leg and I am limping.  The most my hubby and I can walk is around the block.  We try to do it - but not every day.

I did not go to the big quilt show at the R.A. on Mother's Day week-end because I did not think I'd do too well.  Besides I didn't want anyone to feel sorry for me.  I don't want to be seen aging faster than they are!  I'm so vain.  Maybe working on my weight will help in the long run.

You're lucky to have a mid-arm.  We don't have the room!  I am having a major reno of our den.  It will be a mini-office.  I will have a broom closet and cupboards all around with recessed lighting both top and bottom, floor to ceiling cupboards on the back wall and a bottom cupboard for my hubby's office stuff on the other wall, and desk all around.  It is a small room about 8 1/2 x 81/2.  We'll have 2 work stations for computer, office and scrapbooking. Also the carpet will be ripped out and replaced with hardwood.

We can afford reno because we are not travelling anymore.

I am content even though these life changes crept up on us quickly. I have my family,  my friends and my quilting, scrapbooking and reading. And Doug, who is 82, is doing very well.  He knows how to pace himself.

Hi Riana,

No, I didn't quilt my BOM2011.  I sent it out to a LAQ in Waddington, New York for custom quilting.  It turned out wonderfully.  I was so pleased!

I attended a Layer Cake Bake-Off in Canton, New York.  It was a free event sponsored by my guild, the Borderline Quilters.  We all make a layer cake quilt with a layer cake stack.  I enlarged mine at home,  It is 64 x 82 and I'm going to make it for my grandson to take to University next fall.  The top is done and I have cut the batting.  I'm planning to go to Joanne in Ogdensburg on Thursday with my hubby and buy a wide backing.

Forgot to mention that we had a great pot luck lunch at the quilt event.  But in the last month I have been counting my calories because I need to lose some weight.  I have been very good, sticking to 1200 calories a day and weighing and measuring and writing down everything I eat.  More exercise would help too.

sorry riana, was ocer tired yesterday. checked my personal emails this a.m. that relays the stuff fr mqp and three pages came in. i mised a lot of stuff yesterday that would have explained some entries on mqp better. i swear i have the worst isp on the planet. and the local pc help agrees. if i lived in town there are options, but i don't want to live in town. infact last week i though my new modem was on the fritz...all day no net. read in paper, one town over all city services - court house, police etc etc were off-line all day vecause they use the same service.

i am so tired this morning hahahahah but i sure enjoyed playing in and cleaning my overgrown flower beds yesterday. it wasn't hot, nice little breeze. the day before the winds were so bad i just happened to look out as the wind picked up a heavy folding metal deck chAir and throw it across the deck...fortunately it smashed into the railinfpg or it would have been over the cliff! lollol

catching up w reading this a.m. will go back to your discusion, i don't know how i got longarm in there. :((

Thanks Riana.  I thought I would like to machine quilt, but have decided my real love is the piecing.  The dogs are give away quilts for my group.  Hope a child will love the quilt as much as I did making it.

wow! just home from multimonth vacation...long haul drive. days of unpacking and cleaning out the motor home....and you have this much energy! lollol i am limping thru my day here. i so love being able to spend a couple of days w my little ones, but the socializing w difficult adults, long drive to & from...it all adds up to total exhaustion. dh just sent a weather synopsis for this region via email ...we are at about 1/3 of our normal precip, high pressure building and will be having higer than normal temps for nxt week & the winds will be continuing. & i sooo need to spray. was out turning on water systems and watering flower gardens last night and the mosquitos are hatching. and the little buggers are soooo HUNGRY!!! so, i am scuttling around outside trying to give everything shots of water in between playing with, folding and putting away most of my new pretties. three are staying out for a project several of us in my tues q group are starting tomorrow. so, i will also try cutting that out today, maybe start sewing it a bit. it will save time. we have so much fun yakking & eating & sewing & going shopping to lqs...we sometimes don't get a lot done! lollol.

i am soooooo glad to hear your new toy pretty is going to work on your frame w/o too much alteration time/work. i thought it was three rail already. yeah...from what i see of friends frames...it saves a LOT of time.

i just posted a pic of my birthday shopping excursion results, and a pic of the tote bag we are making and my fabric for it.

and now back to the water and the woven stuff! lollol

No worries, Riana--I certainly understand (and I'm very patient!). Thank you for the info, I'm leaning heavily towards this particular machine (13 or 15 inch), as it's in my "budget". I just can't afford a $10,000+ long arm. I did email the company, as I was concerned with servicing, especially since they are manufactured and only sold in upstate NY. He wrote me back and mentioned the same thing you did--re a simple machine w/o feed dogs. I hope to purchase within the next month or so. Again, thank you!

hmmmm lollollol..... sounds like the perfect golf course for you, or i if i played the game, is one w/out flowers. the distractions created are just too great! i would be trying to id the trees too. guess if i ever take up the game of pasture pool i should limit my play to courses in desert regions...the grass is pretty generic, no trees, too much water (for the grass) for cactus to admire, id and photograph :))!!

looks like you are staying ahead of the storms and floods. anyone accused the two of you yet, of dragging this system ravaging the midwest, along behind you on your back bumper? lol

hope the weather holds. we always got sent to next job in fall months. once in summer in a drought year w abnormal hi temps, sun burned arms, even tho they had flannel shirts wrapped around to prevent sunburn. no a/c, son's face got burned thru closed truck window. rough trip, but, mostly we traveled in fall. my fav time of year. traveling east to west or west to east from one coast to the other we experienced fall for every region across the continental US.

miss those times, esp now, when even an hour drive is difficult to deal w, & the 4 1/2hr drive to sons' home in oregon is an endurance test. oh well.....

hi! was off-line for a few days last week. modem up & died. all is well now, new modem... & they are making modem/routers integrated into a single unit now...great! so that is what i got.... sure as anything the nxt to go would have been the router lol.

so, anyway...don't know how i missed this note fr you!!

so, i read your note to d. & so, he is regaling me w horror story of a friend at work, who decided to take some classes to improve his game. first the sore muscles then came in to work so bad he could hardly walk. the "expert", lollol, had him into some kind of contorted, per friends story, contorted stance, then told our friend to swing....end result... the guy is still recovering from wrenched back. david says all the guys are giving ken a serious tease about the whole episode. so, the morale of this whole thing...is just enjoy the game & stay away from "experts" giving lessons. then my sarcastic engineer say to me...."an expert is a has been drip under pressure" ...hands me the tv remote and wanders off lollol

so, hopefully, you are now recovered, golf swing improving --- and the weather remains nice as you continue your meandering journey homeward!!

waiting for next installment on the mystery quilt. been to a couple of quilt group get togethers recently & did a lot on my miniature. also layed all the finished blocks on a scrap of felt to take in and show my idea to them. was just taking pic of my machine, checking mail & ready to head up to load pics on pc. hopefully i will get them on to mqp tonight. if not at least they are off the ipad & off the two digital cams onto the pc and ready for further editing loading etc. before i do tho, i will take a pic of the mini and email w info to mqp. watch for it :))

good to hear from you! glad you are having such a nice trip. and more classes to improve a skill set in doing what one loves to do is always a fun thing.

those storms they show trying to wash away the pacific northwest, mostly miss us. we live in the "rain shadow" of the cascade mountain range in eastern washington state. we are arid semi-desert enviornment. shrubb-steppe flora, rattlesnake fauna :)) ...and scorpions, centipedes, cougars..and a few other fun critters lol

Christmas Tree Skirt (tutorial)

Christmas tree skirts don't have to be round. My appliqued square one was large and lovely, but now we have smaller trees. I made one a round , smaller one recently for a bazaar, and it sold quickly. This tutorial is not about making the top, but more about how to get a nice round center/binding, and how to get the split (access) to come out perfectly even. Pick a cheater fabric like I did, or you can make a patchwork…

One of the nice things about retirement, is that while everyone else goes to work, we get to travel & play! In late Sept., we decided to take our motorhome eastward. We had realatives we seldom see that were docking at Quebec while on a cruise, so a rendezvous was set up.From eastern Ontario, where we reside, it was a short drive to Cornwall. Then, next day we crossed into the prov. of Quebec (which is…
