"Welcome Glenda - yes, hang in there. I've been hand piecing and hand quilting for 35 years. I have always done the "stab" stitch method due to severe pain in my hands (even when I was in my 30's). I often use a 16" hoop but…"
"Oh, rogue - you make me laugh. Now that I have my large quilt on the large floor frame in the sewing room - what I'm missing is the sports on the TV in the living room. So - to keep life interesting - I also have a new quilt to work on in the…"
"Thank you Carla - it is certainly a passion; progress will be slow, but I will try to keep everyone apprised of it when I think it's worth showing. The heart quilt was designed for a young lady thinking she was having a baby girl - turned out…"
"Thanks Nancy. We were just out in NM this last summer for 2 months. Went to several quilt guilds there and I loved them!! Everyone was so friendly, all wanting to learn something from each other. I think I got spoiled quickly and…"
"Nancy, I live on the Northwest side of San Antonio, almost to Boerne, right on I-10. I was looking for quilt shop in the Leon Springs or Boerne area, due to the traffic when you get inside 1604. We even drove out to Kerrville the other day and…"
"I own several jelly rolls - have used a few just to make pieces for a scrappy quilt - but am now considering making a quilt using just jelly rolls and either charm packs or cake layers. I have several books that have patterns for these - since I…"
"Michelle, where do you live in San Antonio? I don't know any quilters there - but have a son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter there - they live near Schertz. He's pastor of Northeast Baptist Church in SA. Marci, my dil sews or used to…"
Tell us about yourself—as much or as little as you like.
I have been a stay-at-home mom all my married life - 42 years; I have been quilting since 1981; I do everything by hand and find it the most relaxing and most rewarding hobby. I love spending time with family - all 4 granddaughters! I love sewing for them, too.
How many quilts have you made?
Do you want to make quilts, or simply enjoy them?
I love the quilting process but also enjoy them when they are done.
How long have you been a quilter?
What is your favorite quilting technique?
Why do you quilt?

Thanks Nancy. We were just out in NM this last summer for 2 months. Went to several quilt guilds there and I loved them!! Everyone was so friendly, all wanting to learn something from each other. I think I got spoiled quickly and wanted to find the same thing here but I just haven't found that yet. We were in a small area of NM, Quamado, I think the quilt guild met in the town of Reserve. It's near the Gila mountains and Apache National forest. Love NM!!
Nancy, I live on the Northwest side of San Antonio, almost to Boerne, right on I-10. I was looking for quilt shop in the Leon Springs or Boerne area, due to the traffic when you get inside 1604. We even drove out to Kerrville the other day and the quilt shop there has retreats a few times a year. I am going to one in a few weeks, just to get to know a few new people, see if anyone lives close to me. I also met a few quilters in my Zumba class at the Senior Center. Loving that Zumba!!
interesting. i have used protien shakes and protien bars as my main protien nutrient source all my adult life. i am not vegetarian, but i don't eat much, especially meat. so, i was quite surprised to see soy turn up as one of the foods i had developed an allergy to. one of my doctors doing the tests, told me that whey protien was a better nutrient source than soy. so i switched. it has always been difficult to find soy based protien bars, i take a couple in my backpack w water jug when i am working outside and it is not convenient to go all the way back to the house just for lunch. but the last couple of years, the GNC store here has gone over to almost nothing but whey protien bars. yeeaayy!! :)) i have protien shake for breakfast & lunch. love fresh fruit and veggies and munch a lot. during the week i don't cook dinner...time, his hours, my work around the place. ...but weekends i cook and no protein shakes.
i also was diagnosed with a close cousin of your fibromyalgia a few years ago while they were seeing if there was something that could be done for the constant pain other than pain pills. all in all after two years of testing for everything from allergies to lupis and rheumatoid arthritis - both of those were negative thankfully, tho one doc insisted that with all my symptoms we were getting "false negatives" on the tests lollol... but...like i said after thousands of dollars of mostly uncovered by insurance tests, xrays, mri etc etc ..i was diagnosed with CFIDS along with degenerative spinal disease, cervical ankylosing spondylosis, oteoarthritis, amd early osteoporrosis in my upper legs! plus of course, the usual degenerative arthritis all over my body giving me lumpy hands and toes etc :)). tje osteoporrosis in my upper legs really blew them away..i have always been a bit strange, and then i found out even my bones are strange! lollol but like you and your fibromyalgia...we endure...we find a way. take care...missed our conversations too.
lurking lollol was my primary form of visits until last spring. in may my son decided that my bd goft this year should be an ipad. 2reasons...it is painful to sit for too long and i am an information junkie of the first magnitude :)). he worried about me and the pc amd the net reading, also...since i get to reading following links wandering willy-nilly around the web from one fascination to the next i never remembered to hook up the cam that he and his dad got me a few years before...for exmas, so that i could visit w son and grdaughters on pc. so...w the ipad we do a thing called "facetime" he had showed it to me before .."yeah..ok..yawn.." but! now rhat i have my ipad and he goes out w his and follows the girls and their antics in their yard yelling "watch this gramma ham!" i am a solid convert to the ipad and facetime and portability and standing at the counter eating lunch/breakfast whatever and ...reading and chatting w chat friends and posting sometimes inanne comments on mqp or the board or ...or ...or lollol
hi...had not come across your posts before. now our paths have crossed! and i am glad for it. nice to "meet" you. hope you post some pics. the site has grown enormously since i joined in nov a year ago. i posted some initial pics..and nothing since. need to mend my ways...it is so time consuming to get on pc and do the thing. on quilting board they have it so i can upload fr ipad etc. .....hmmm maybe i should send a note to the powers that be that there be a similar facility here at mqp?
