Tell us about yourself
Linda has been a quiltmaker for the better part of 20 years, working in traditional patterns and designs for most of that time. While working full time, and being a wife to Mike and a mom to Chris and Andy, she fit in quilting as time allowed while raising her family. She found companionship in the membership she held in two guilds during that timeframe, and has to this day a particular affinity for Challenges.

Beginning in 2006, several life events occurred which had a profound effect on her quilting style. At the request of a friend who was starting a pattern design company, she agreed to test a pattern for a baby quilt. “I needed a baby quilt, and as long as I could use my own taste with respect to fabrics, it was a win-win for all”. Linda later went on to test a second pattern, finding freedom in the contemporary forms that this designer embraced. The more that she worked with more contemporary color palettes and designs, the more comfortable she became with their use.

In 2007, Linda received an email through that same friend, forwarding a request for help from Cotton Spice Quilting Magazine. The magazine, which markets itself as the magazine for quilters who are looking for something different, became successful enough to need to expand it’s staff. Linda became the Block of the Month Challenge Director for Cotton Spice in February, a position she still holds.

As the year continued, other opportunities presented themselves, and prompted Linda to open The Patchwork Pearl in the fall. The website offers something for everyone in the quilt world – individual quilters who are looking for classes, groups or guilds who are looking for retreats and trunk shows, and professionals in the quilt space, who may be looking for help with business and marketing plans.

Linda’s work has been exhibited in several guild shows throughout New Hampshire. In October of that year, she received notification that her quilt, Margarita Madness, had been juried into A Quilter’s Gathering in Nashua, NH.

Linda and husband Mike continue to live in the home that they raised their family in. They enjoy traveling the beautiful New England countryside in their Mazda Miata roadsters in the summertime, where a favorite destination usually involves a quilt shop.

How Technology has Opened Up the Quilting World

Posted on July 6, 2012 at 1:32pm 3 Comments

It used to be that to make a quilt you needed a few simple things; a pair of scissors, a pattern made from tagboard or cereal boxes, and a Singer sewing machine - circa 1889, or simply a needle and thread.  However, technological advances have changed the way quilts are made and shared from start to finish.

Quilting has been around for centuries and scissors just about as long. Although cumbersome when it comes to cutting through layers of fabric, scissors worked for the job at hand. …
