- Recently decided to throw myself into the world of quilting. I've always loved quilts and this past February decided to take a class.....totally hooked! It's like heroin for me and since that class I have made 4 bed quilts and two baby blankets. I retired from my high paced job as a secretary to take care of my mother and quilting is the only thing I can do that fills the energy levels I was so used to. Taking care of my mother full time lends little time for classes so I am teaching myself via "Google University". Very excited to join My Quilt Place and learn from fellow quilters!

I just got back from a wonderful visit with my grandchildren in Georgia. They had an end of the year school picnic where I was the face painter...it was really fun and I did a fabulous job if I do say so myself. Now seeing them is always a joy but this trip there was an added surprise from my aunt I haven't seen in years. Aunt Merci (her 1st hubby was Filipino and could not say Marcy so she had her name changed to the way he said it)..anyway, Aunt Merci had to put her mother in a nursing…

Today I said goodbye to my sewing room. We have one room in the house for "miscellaneous". So for the last couple of years it's been my sewing room/guest room/den. Mostly a sewing room. I had a closet for all my notions and fabric, a nice table for cutting, a sewing table, and all the appropriate space for everything quilting. As a single mom I've had a job for as long as I can remember. Always so busy every single day. This year I find myself at home with a reasonably easy daily routine and plenty of time on my hands. So what do I do? I become a member of this website and join in on every "swap" I see! Charm swaps, FQ swaps, and the most fun....quilt block swaps. Some times we are not sure where to visit on this site but I wanted to let you know that I have a group of gals and I that are doing several different quilts the Blooming Nine and the Jewel Box quilts. We are posting pictures with our choices of fabrics and progress. Carla Walton has done several of the Blooming Nine so she is our administrator. I've done a nice wedding ring quilt for my daughter 7 yr. ago and never got a picture of it. It's still beautiful & used daily. Maybe I should borrow it for a day & get photo.The pattern wasn't as hard as the old-fashioned template one, you do a little bit of strip piecing, and no applique. (But you DO have to sew in those melon-shaped pieces to centers.) Not a beginner's quilt, but definitely worth the learning curve. Maybe I'll do a new one with a tutorial for next yr.'s fair, (or the yr. after).

I've been buying any blue to navy with white and/or cream fabrics I can put my hands on so that I can do these block. Yes I agree that January and February blocks were very difficult to make. I however the ones I liked making the most were March. I love english paper piecing. Quiet a few of my blocks were made using this technique.
