I just got back from a wonderful visit with my grandchildren in Georgia. They had an end of the year school picnic where I was the face painter...it was really fun and I did a fabulous job if I do say so myself. Now seeing them is always a joy but this trip there was an added surprise from my aunt I haven't seen in years. Aunt Merci (her 1st hubby was Filipino and could not say Marcy so she had her name changed to the way he said it)..anyway, Aunt Merci had to put her mother in a nursing…

Today I said goodbye to my sewing room. We have one room in the house for "miscellaneous". So for the last couple of years it's been my sewing room/guest room/den. Mostly a sewing room. I had a closet for all my notions and fabric, a nice table for cutting, a sewing table, and all the appropriate space for everything quilting. Well, it only took a little over a year for me to gain quite a bit of weight while I sat at my sewing table as long as I pleased...which during a creative frenzy…

As a single mom I've had a job for as long as I can remember. Always so busy every single day. This year I find myself at home with a reasonably easy daily routine and plenty of time on my hands. So what do I do? I become a member of this website and join in on every "swap" I see! Charm swaps, FQ swaps, and the most fun....quilt block swaps. I am currently involved in three quilt block swaps and one FQ swap! That's just this week! Who knows what I'll join tomorrow. But I love them! I love…

Hello my quilting buddies! I just read a blog about creativity and the blogger posed the question "are you a hoarder?"...my answer is no. I'm the anti-hoarder. Everything in my pragmatic life is about simplicity and minimalism....kind of like the Amish. I only have clothes that I wear and a few things for special occasions. There are no collections of anything around the house. I can't have any clutter in my life. I do love to create things but only useful things like quilts. My motto is…

Chef Lisa said… Hi Karen just here to introduce myself and welcome you to MQP. Glad you enjoy the Zebra a few gals here said they were going to Lancaster for the quilt show as one took a picture and sent it to me. It looked great!
Some times we are not sure where to visit on this site but I wanted to let you know that I have a group of gals and I that are doing several different quilts the Blooming Nine and the Jewel Box quilts. We are posting pictures with our choices of fabrics and progress. Carla Walton has done several of the Blooming Nine so she is our administrator. Come on over to view what we are doing at http://myquiltplace.com/group/batik-strip-swap/forum/topics/projects-and-pictures?xg_source=activity.
To do the Jewel Box we have a Batik Strip Swap going on and we are using those strips for the Jewel Box. We just started a Charm Square Swap of either a Batik or 100% cotton at http://myquiltplace.com/group/charm-square-swap?xg_source=activity today to use with our Jewel Box Quilt project. Just come on over to join and then you can decide if you want to swap or just do the quilt projects.

I've done a nice wedding ring quilt for my daughter 7 yr. ago and never got a picture of it. It's still beautiful & used daily. Maybe I should borrow it for a day & get photo. The pattern wasn't as hard as the old-fashioned template one, you do a little bit of strip piecing, and no applique. (But you DO have to sew in those melon-shaped pieces to centers.) Not a beginner's quilt, but definitely worth the learning curve. Maybe I'll do a new one with a tutorial for next yr.'s fair, (or the yr. after).

localgirl said… hi Karen, I loved reading your entry on June 5 about "Hoarding". I've been trying to cleanup my hoarding/packratting of quilting supplies, esp. fabrics, and other crafts. I need to stop going shopping and go through my STASH, use what I have. I got into the habit of buying because its a GREAT SALE, GREAT PRICE, and now my closet is overflowing out the door. I need help, encouragement, advice, etc. Thank you for your article, love all your quilt creations!
beautiful quilts!!!
Bonnie Sneed said… Hi, Karen, Thanks for checking out my new websitewww.quiltasdesired.co (soon to be .com) and my Facebook page at Quilt As Desired. I waited two years to get the website, and I am so excited! If you are just looking into a brand new website, and you don't have a lot of experience, but want to customize, I got the .co one at Vistaprint. In one single day, I chose a logo, designed business cards, and got the website up using the same designs. It is a bit slow to update, but very user friendly and not enormously expensive. You can try it free for 30 days. No, I don't work for them or get a kickback :-). Thanks for commenting on my quilts! Hope to hear from you again. I love this website, as well!

Julie Beard said… Hi Karen, Thanks for your comments about my Craftsy Blocks. None of my fabrics are scraps. I've been buying any blue to navy with white and/or cream fabrics I can put my hands on so that I can do these block. Yes I agree that January and February blocks were very difficult to make. I however the ones I liked making the most were March. I love english paper piecing. Quiet a few of my blocks were made using this technique. I am also currently making a block that uses this technique as well. Any way thanks for commenting. Julie Beard
