My Love Affair with Quilting

Posted on October 16, 2011 at 7:46am 0 Comments

When I was a child, my grandmother and her family/friends had quilting bees and she would take me with her.  My playhouse was under whatever quilt they were working on at the time.  It was in an old Victorian style house in a huge upstairs room.  I'm sure if I could go back to that room, it wouldn't be as big as I perceived it to be!  I have one of the last quilts my grandmother made - it's tattered and worn but  an absolute treasure to me.  I've always enjoyed sewing and in my young adult…

Hi JoAnn~thanks for adding me as a friend!

I have been teaching myself to quilt for the past 6 years now; I use books and the internet.  I'm in a very small town without any classes, and no one in my family quilts or sews, so I've been on my own.  After I made my first quilt I was hooked!  I made one for every family member and I wanted to keep making them, so now I mainly make them to sell and donate.  I joined this site because I don't have any real life quilting friends and I thought this would be a great way to meet others.  At first I had a hard time, but once I joined some of the groups it was much easier; everyone has been so friendly and helpful!

I love the quilts you've posted!  I'm especially fond on bargello quilts, but I haven't had the nerve to tackle one yet!  I don't like strip piecing and when I make something with a bunch of squares I sew them together one by one (which takes a LONG time!).  I don't like strip piecing because I can never get my strips to be perfectly straight no matter how many tips I try.  But that's fine because I love the sewing part of quilting.  I'd love to make a bargello, but I think my way would take forever!

Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy it here as much as I do!
