Tacoma Quilt

Just finished my quilt entry for this year's Pacific West Quilt Show in Tacoma.  The challenge fabric is visible as the border and all those fussy-cut flowers that act as the octopus' "suckers" on his tentacles.  The quilt size is 18" square, the other requirement.See More

Tell us about yourself
I am retired from many decades in the electronics/computer field. I have been a single woman most of my life and have no children, which allows me to pursue many hobbies. I moved to Southern Oregon to explore my many hobbies and to travel. I especially enjoy art quilting and belong to a local club, Rogue Art Quilters in Ashland.

I mostly do art quilts, some crazy quilting, and applique. I enjoy working with lots of embellishments and learning new techniques. Annually, I attend the Sisters (Oregon) Outdoor Quilt Show Event and the International Pacific Quilt Show in Santa Clara, CA to see all the quilt entries and take lots of classes. I have been lucky to take classes with many well-known quilters/teachers.
How many quilts have you made?
About 20, but I have many many UFOs.
Do you want to make quilts, or simply enjoy them?
Both
How long have you been a quilter?
25 years or so
Why do you quilt?
Love of fabric and fibers, imagining what they can create when put together, the sensual feelings - both tactile and visual.

The Quilt Whisperer

This quilt was done for the 2012 Leavenworth, WA quilt show challenge - and won a 2nd place ribbon.  The theme of the challenge was "Fields of Fabric" and the challenge fabric was realized in the flower motifs in the right foreground.  I live in the mountains in Oregon and look out on mountains and forests and distant farmlands.  The challenge theme had me imagining those farmlands as crops of fabrics and of a woman looking out and whispering the fabrics into quilts.…

Hello, Janis.  I've just been enjoying your website.  I have made a few postcards, but

none so wonderful as yours.  They are fun, though, and very special.  Linda A. Stone

Another Oregonian!  I'm in Seaside.  There haven't been very many of us on this site, but you're the third one to join in 2 days.

I've been quilting for almost 6 years and enjoy traditional quilts and machine quilting.  I make quilts for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative, so I've been exploring different techniques.  I feel I lack creativity in that area...maybe if I enjoyed hand quilting or beading my "art" quilts would look more like art!  I've been experimenting with Paintstiks, Angelina, foils, tulle and needlefelting.  I LOVE machine quilting using fun threads.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and welcome!
