"Hi Paula very few people can do a perfect 1/4 inch seam every time. The foot does help, but u don't have to have one. I used the edge of my regular sewing foot as the guide. As long as you keep your seam consistent through out your project you…"

Christine Vance commented on QuilterBridget's group Newbies
"I always hand wash my fabric and then put it in the dryer. I do get some fraying and tangles. I find I get more fraying when I use the washing machine. The hand washing does help cut down on the fraying."

Christine Vance replied to QuilterBridget's discussion What kind of classes have you taken? in the group Newbies
"I have taken classes at local quilt shows such as piecing techniques, fabric folding, and machine quilting. The classes a bit more expensive than the local quilt shops. I always learn something new and meet some people along the way. I do think they…"

Christine Vance replied to Julia Purdy's discussion How Do YOU SORT ALL YOUR STASH? How big is your Stash? in the group Newbies
"I don't use totes. I like to have easy access to the fabrics. I put shelves up in a closet and have it sorted in a similar way. Each shelf has a theme like craft, quilting, clothing, etc. Then within each self it is all colorized."

Christine Vance commented on QuilterBridget's group Newbies
"I would recommend getting a walking foot for your machine. I too would get puckers using a straight stitching foot and that is because foot just pushes through the material. A straight foot isn't meant to handle a large height in fabric. I…"

Christine Vance commented on QuilterBridget's group Newbies
"In my Fons and porter quilt book, they recommend having the binding go past the front seam an 1/8 of an inch. This way it will cover the front seam and u r not hand sewing through another seam."
