I made this pattern before but I changed the thread color cuz the other male cardinal looked to purple and I liked these reds better.

Tell us about yourself—as much or as little as you like.
Some years ago I started a girls club at our church. I've had girls ages 5 - 16. Part of our work was teaching the girls to sew. Even though I consider myself a rookie, I enjoyed it. We made pumpkins, scarecrows, dolls, stuffed kittys, aprons, PJs etc... I learned as I went. Taught the girls the parts of the sewing machine and it was so exciting to hear those machines humming. One little girl was only five and had to stand up at her machine because she couldn't reach the pedal. I was surprised at how well she did at her age. It was a lot of work but we all enjoyed it and at the end of the season we had a fashion show. Once the girls gave me a ticket for speeding on my machine. ha ha!! My new love is quilting. I'm pressing on toward learning everything I can about making quilts. I've made eight simple ones, but I've learned so much more by joining on line classes. They are packed full of good information. Thank You!!

Barbara, if you'd like a LOT of good info & advice on using the embroidery machine, there is a wonderful group on FB called " embroidery machine help". It covers all brands of machines, and even help with dowloading, digitizing, etc., but mainly, experienced users share their knowledge about stabilizers, products, and methods.

Hi, Let me know how yours turn out, send photos, please.  I pinned based a quilt top yesterday, the purple Dresden with buttercream background. Took me all pointer finger is sore, left a little blood behind, but should come out, not really noticeable.  It will go to a local fella who has done a lot for the community and gets nothing in return, tangible, he doesn't seek recognition. He loves the Lord.

Loved your story on your "girls" and how they have so many memories of their time spent sewing with you.  I had thought about  offering my services with 4H. We are so busy with rebuilding our home after our 2011 flood, my home is a mess and under construction. So I have put that aside for now. Maybe later when we get more done??

Hello, Again. I read your bio. I to had a sewing class at our church for all the ladies/girls that were interested. The little, little girls who came with their mothers..I gave them fabric and buttons to sew. Showed them how, gave them free reign of my stash and watched them go.. They all had fun. We met on Mondays during the summer, spent the whole day at the church learning about nap, warp and weft threads, reading patterns and following instructions. And of course the ripping! We all brought our lunches and enjoyed the day together.  The girls mostly wanted to make garments. Then if they wanted to make a quilt we would work on one.  Everyone was doing something different which made it interesting. The girls grew up and members come and go with the AF. Fun Times!!

I haven't quilted mine yet, it's not even basted. I am not quite sure, it hasn't told me yet. I think I want to use contrasting thread in the negative space (do a fun pattern) and on the browns and oranges maybe just stitch in the ditch. That way I don't lose the detail, do you remember how they stitched the piece on MSQC??

I am currently basting on a stretcher frame I built the purple Dresden on buttercream in the basement. I needed to take a break.

Hello Barbara!  That would be fun to meet up some day.  I'm about 45 mins. from Holly.  Fowlerville is near Brighton/Howell.  I, myself, was born in Detroit but grew up in South Lyon.  Let me know if you're ever over this way.
