Raven's Tale

I made this quilt from a kit that I bought in Alaska many years ago. The quilt designer is Ellen Ferguson. It is a combination of patchwork and applique. The appliques in the corner are a motive you find on totempoles in the Canadian West. This is the Raven.
I find it hard to take good pictures of quilts. Any hints anyone?

Thank you,
happy quilting,
Irmgard

thank you. I was rather surprised at my husbands response. his colors are in the cooler ranges...greens, grays, blues etc, i like the reds...brights, & black. but he said not one word about the red here, the first shock:), ...he was drawn ro the native motifs. surprised me. the web page you posted is fabulous. it will be difficult now to decide which kit or if just one. but then, maybe that was the kismet of this encounter.

have a lovely day,

Hi there,

Thank you for your comments.

The kit for the Raven's Tale is still available form a quilt shop in Alaska, called Abby's Reflection. Their website is  http://abbysreflection.danemcowro.com/shop/category/quilt-kits/  I also think that the price hasn't increased much; it's about $62 now.  I bought it almost 10 years ago, but only this year got around to finally finish it. Happy quilting and greetings from Ontario, Irmgard

my husband worked on the alaskan pipeline throughout it's construction. before that he took time out fr college to work in the logging up in alaska. we spent our honeymoon hiking and ferry trips down the inland passage. we love alaska. brought back so much info on the various sotheastern tribes, thier customs, thier totem pole motifs. i have wanted to make a quilt using american indian pictograms for some time. difficult to find resources...i want : what it is, for what tribe, why it is used etc etc... i guess i want too much info. hubby and i were just sitting here enjoying this quilt and what it represents. i am now told that with the rich native totem heritage of our pacific northwestern usa, that i need to get serious and make "something!" lollol...thank you for sharing this. i haven't cruised thru your photos in quite a while. brought back by your delightful cherry quilt posting. missed this before ...don't remember it, but i will now. he will want his mom to see it when we visit her nxt wkend!
