My studio

Working on one of my favorite quilt designs. My sewing machine is a Bernina Industrial machine, the motor is on the outside underneath the table.

Wow, this looks like a quilt shop with all of the fabric.  Love it.

my basement is "L" shaped and one end would be right size for my worktable or a pool table. other section would be perfect for seating area for visiting, hand quilting with wall area for quilt diaplay or flatscreen tv. as i said before, it has to be done so that switch fr quilting/sewing/craft room to "family room" entertainment/game room for next occupants is simple. and it is in this area i was thinking of using can lights..ambiant lighting.

the cieling? i like mobils and wind chimes...my last sewing room had the cieling brightly, happily and sometimes tinklingly festooned with myriad of sound & color. ...and my basket collection also :)) it was made of an old syle wall board (1870's farm house) that pre-dated sheetrock. i thought a wood type cieling treatment would allow me to hang my happys again w minimal damage & repair later. so..that is why i was curious avout your cieling. it is one thing to get idea...not often do i come across of example and get to see how it will look.
thanks for your response

The can lights are ok only for extra light, I use clamp lights with light bulbs that are Daylight cfl, basically the same type of light you would have in an Ott lamp, you can find them at a Menards, Lowes.  Thank You for the compliment on my studio.  It is my happy place, at last count I have over 1,000 bolts of Moda fabric only.  Why so many?  I design dolls and quilts, make them and then sell them at craft/art shows all over the country.  I also have an Etsy shop too.  Here is a link to it.  http://www.etsy.com/shop/MROriginals?ref=si_shop

we are going to turn an unfinished basement into a family room style that i can use now as a sewing/needlework/craft room. one of the ideas i had considered for cieling was the beadboard panels i saw at home depot. is that sorta what you used here? i also, tho i detest them, was thinking of can lights as ambient lighting w fan/light combos in a couple of places to facilitate air flow. i have done a lot of work cleaning & prepping the space for walls flooring etc and even w windows it is so stuffy..will be worse i fear w fabric smell & craft work. do the can lights i see here give adequate light for your area? i also use the clamp on bendable lights directly over work project/area. really like your space. hadn't seen it before (thank you for finding it debbie) it is what i envision my space to be. we are construction nomads for multinat'l construction co. so always have to think about marketability of whatever we do to home. so tho i would love to have your fab storage, i will have to make the space easily convertable to a "family room" if/when we put on mkt. not soon i hope...getting harder and harder to leave behind places like we are now that are both beautiful & full of wonderful people.

Sondra, I travel all over the country selling my quilts and dolls so I have to have lots of space and fabric.
