Comment by the rogue quilter on May 29, 2012 at 9:29am Although it has the same outline shape as "Crossed Canoes", this is actually a more advanced quilters' version called "Harlquin Star" according to A Quilter's Companion by Delores Hinson, p.48. That one also sports piecework in the center square as well, but I like the one in the photo better:)
There is an encyclopedia of quilt blocks by Barbara brackman, if you can get your hands on a copy you could look it up. I think you need to know the name of the pattern to start. that or go through it page by page.
Comment by patbruck on May 24, 2012 at 9:57pm Someone replied it looked like the crossed canoe block,of all the years I've been quilting I never heard tell of this block. If you want the pattern google the name and there's all kinds of info to help you.
Comment by carla j walton on May 24, 2012 at 9:49pm have you gone to www.quilterscache.com ? they have almost every pattern you can think of old and new. i will look too and see if i can find it. may take a while there are tons of them. or maybe you will get lucky and someone will just know.
i love this picture.
It looks very similar to a Crossed Canoes block, with the variation of the diamonds in the points. Not sure I've ever seen a pattern like this one, but if you have the Electric Quilt design software, you might be able to draft your own pattern...
