I love the way colors 'dance' around in New York Beauty quilts. The ideas of "New York" and "dancing" started me thinking about Gene Kelly's "Gotta Dance!" number from Singing in the Rain and I put it all together in this quilt.

Thanks again everyone! It won a 2nd place ribbon and is on tour with the AQS Shows for the next year or so. It is my best quilt and I can't wait to get it back and hang it. :)

So creative and incredible; especially how you created Gene Kelly and placed him front and center!  Now you've got me singing Gotta Dance and playing the movie over and over in my mind!  Such a magnificent and masterful quilt!  Bravo!!

Thanks rogue... I still can't figure out how to reply directly to your comment, lol. But I wanted to tell you that I entered it into the National Quilt Museum's contest New Quilts from Old Favorites. This year the theme was the New York Beauty block, which is what got me thinking of dancing, New York and Gene Kelly. I also think one of the reasons I was so stressed is that I didn't start the quilt until July. I didn't realize how long it would take me to make it... If I had started last spring perhaps it wouldn't have been so hard.

Anyway, thanks for the compliments!

such intricate poecing, blending of colors, details of cityscape, dancer, joyfully exploding sky ..incredible quilt ..i'm sure there was more than a little stress involved. i hope it's entered into one of AQS mega shows next show season ..i think it would garner evey award they have!
...but the favorite quilts of yours for this country girl are still the trees & landscapes :))
