Dresden Plates with a twist

I found this on Pinterest and was wondering if anyone else had seen this pattern before? I would love to know how to put the triangle cream colored fabric in the plates. The owner did not give an explanation. If anybody knows how to do this it would be awesome if you let the rest of us know!

i saw that. there is a miniature group here on mqp and several members are there. a couple are quite exciting artists. and of cours we have amongst our membership carol doak. i haven't been to her page here since i embarrased myself by gushing like a rock groupie when she joined. now if we could bring in barbara brackman, cuesta benberry, joe cunningham, gwen marsten, sally collins... oooh!! i even met sally collins!! ...and she stopped and visited w me during the class i was taking along w others fr my q guild. and she really LIKED one of my fabric choices!! my little quilty heart is still all 'flutter about that experience!! seriously though, she was one of my inspirations for doing miniature..in the early nineties there were several writing and publishing. i even subscribed to miniature quilting mag till it went out of publication. ..and a few dozen more rhat i read and admired and was inspired by as i have traveled my quilty road...sigh! well...just don't know how often we are allowd to embarras ourselve in one lifetime lollollol

so you make miniatures?  I thought I was the only one doing that!  Paper piecing as well?  Isn't that funny! I pretty much just paper piece and hand applique now.  Selling the mini's on Ebay, keeps the cost down to a dull roar and the fabric stash....ha, yea, right.  I made a civil war reproduction that has two inch squares, paper pieced.  I put a picture of it on my page.  Take a look!

the time on this will be, like all asides i do..experiments...etc, among & amidst the clutter of other wip's. if i don't operate this way, i will never get to play on new thoughts/ideas or brainstorms. for example, found a note on bedside table last night..finally decifered what it said...so now i need to translate wobbly wake up note too self re: images in a dream that will translate into an awsome mini.

but yeah, fully intend to share my effort here..just a block for now. was thinking of ways to miniatureize..& how sm can i make it.. then thought if all of us, i think there are 8, that have commented/shown interest here..made a block we could do a block swap or something? then decided that that is something that i probabably shouldn't start. plus i make small blocks.

lollol...met a woman at po yesterday, wanted to know all about the quilt i was mailing to friend..told her i would share pic, story, pattern etc via email. told her blocks were 15cm or about 6" ...she started trying to visualize...lollol...i have a mini stanley tape measure on my key ring. she said..oohh that is small! i said i am sure you could enlarge it on a copier.

so..yeah i will share pic of block..hopefully by next wkend..this one is being spent running around w dh mostly, so won't start till tomorrow...sunday.

the rogue quilter -let us see your progress!  I haven't started anything with this block yet.  I still have the halloween circle quilt top to finish (it's on another of my posts) and I just finished a Civil War mini that's only 11.5 inches square.  I'll post a picture!

Ok.. so.. here we go..

attempt one with a half square triangle.. wrong.

But this does show how the triangle is folded out over the dresden pieces after it is stitched in between them.

Enter different template.. 60 degree triangle. Actually since the dresden pieces are so small, I wouldn't use this, I'd find one of my angle ended rulers that's 60 degrees and use it so everything would fit nicely.

Success. Clearly I did not use appropriate sizes of things but you get the idea.. you can make your star any size you want. To get the point less crookedy than mine.. press the seam open then use a knitting needle or something to spread it open all the way to the tip.

Thanks Pat, that was helpful and she also allows you to "pin it" so now I can keep track of it.

ok, here is the link to the ten minute block on youtube.. I'm gonna go see if I can do the block as well to see what you might be doing wrong.. I"m thinking it's that your triangle is slipping when you're sewing, this might be one that you have to pin
