that is the laffe book that i have. i must take another look at it with a new attitude. i became a huge fan of his years ago with his knitting patterns of which i had many. then after i started quilting, i started seeing quilt patterns by him and now he has so many books out. he is an amazing artist regardless of the medium, paint, wool, fabric.

collecting fabric over long term for an idea in mind, yes, i do that too. i will decide on a want to do..go for it. but when an idea or inspiration, like for the striped quilt, i can work on that fabric bundle for years. as the collection grows, the need to start before more ideas emerge with all the new possibilities seen in the collected fabrics.

this quilt is sooo wonderful. new or used fabric, to me not important. i am more of a traditionalist, and this is the type of fabric use that drew me in. love love love the art quilts, the bali quilts, but traditional is my mainstay and interest. i look at quilts in mags and on the net, at shows, wherever, mine seem so tawdry, but i love them, and the people i make them for do too...and that is all that matters to me.

Thank you for your comments.

I collected the striped fabrics over many years, also begged from friends and neighbours and colleagues in the office. Most of the fabrics are used. I think the book was "Passionate Patchwork", but I just can't locate it right now. It is a lot of fun to make these squares. The hand quilting took me quite some time, but it's worth it.

Regards,

Irmgard

WHOA!! this is incredible. love kaffe, have one of his books, but really don't care for his fabrics or the fabrics he uses in his quilts. but this...! this has definitely made me rethink what i can do w pattern ideas in the book. heck, i may finally break down and get that one about gardens or something. this is so wonderful, has such an heirloom look to it.

This quilt is called "3 Generations". It has fabrics from my husband's shorts, my son's shirts and one of the fabrics was a duvet cover from my mom in Germany. The pattern for this quilt is from a book by Kaffe Fassett.
