Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
If you're a REAL quilter, you have at least one UFO (unfinished object) and one WIP (work in progress) stashed in the closet or stacked on a shelf. Maybe you just need quilting suggestions, or maybe a fresh eye from a new online friend can help with block arrangements. How about a UFO swap? Any UFO conversation is welcome.

Nancy, OMG, how absolutely gorgeous!
Well here is my UFO - I promise myself it will be my project in 2012. This is a link to some beautifully completed Venice Rose Quilts. http://www.bellabellaquilts.com/student.html
I love the fabrics my daughter chose - now I need to finish it. Here it is.
Morning, All! @Nancy, Thank you. I'm anxious to see your Venice Rose quilt. This group will be so interesting!
@Mary, Thank you, too. I love your pictures. I immediately want to color in your WOMBAT pieces, maybe fabric paints or Paintsticks. You could use each scene as a Focus Block in an arrangement like the "Beyond The Block" Mystery Quilt from last fall. Or, group them all together with some landscape looking fabrics and create a quaint town. If you're really ambitious, decorate each building for Christmas! Is your UFO from a Stack-n-Whack? I have one just like it with purple hexagons! I've no idea what this would look like, but could you fold the small edge hexagons over onto the backing? Like carrying the front over onto the back.
Somewhere (don't remember where) I saw a UFO swap where the person who received the UFO could do whatever they wanted with it, including cutting up & redesigning it. The differences were amazing.
Jeanne- you did such a great job on the different snow whites, he is going to love it.
Debi- I think I have seen guilds do UFO swaps in, unmarked on the outside, brown paper bags, and they do have to bring the finished projects back to show to the owners. Then everything goes to various charities. We ought to be able to figure out a way.
My Wombat is not even pieced yet...just 5 big ugly sections...maybe salvageable.
My UFO only needs the outside hexagons quilted(the binding is already turned in) but 1 really don't like the wayward border pieces anymore. All advice welcome.
Jeanne I love your inspiration for your quilt as it has transferred to you art piece, this will be fun to watch evolve in this group. I have a 1/4 completed Venice Rose that I promised myself I would work on in January. All the pieces are cut, I just need to do the paper piecing. That will be my first UFO for this group. I checked, the picture is on my phone so I will have to post later.
OMG I have to copy and save these. I so often have no idea what people are saying when they use these acronyms. I may get into the 21st century lingo after all. Thanks Suzanne.
It's good to see so many quilters I recognize here! Suzanne, I love your categories! I have a number of UFOs, but not all of them are because I don't know what I want to do with it. So, I'd suppose I have at least 4 WIPIs - Works In Progress, Ignored. The one I really need to finish is for my hubby; it was a Christmas present 2 years ago! But, it's better now than it would have been then because I've found better fabric & improved my quilting skills! There's a good theory behind my madness. . .
There are no hard and fast rules about finishing a thing. Maybe you wanted to try a new technique, or color combination, or whatever. Salvage what you can ... or not. In any case, it served its purpose if you learned something. Sometimes, too, if you put it away for a time and come back to it, you might like it again ... or not ... or you may think, I've got a headstart on a quilt to give away. Just don't beat yourself up over it. Some things call to you, saying make me now. Others can wait. We are supposed to be having fun, aren't we?
