UFOs

If you're a REAL quilter, you have at least one UFO (unfinished object) and one WIP (work in progress) stashed in the closet or stacked on a shelf. Maybe you just need quilting suggestions, or maybe a fresh eye from a new online friend can help with block arrangements. How about a UFO swap? Any UFO conversation is welcome.

This is an update on what is going on with my brother from his wife CIndy: " This afternoon Christina (his nurse) was worried that his fingers felt a bit cold to the touch. She paged the doctors. The same guy from earlier came in and wasn't pleased with the color. He unwrapped to relieve the pressure and poked some more to make it bleed. The color changed back to more pink and they rewrapped. They'll continue the poking and dressing every hour. It doesn't sound like it's getting better or worse. The doctors will round again between 6 & 8."

Then later... "Doctor came in again just before 6pm. No changes to report - positive or negative. The routine continues for now." That was Sarah's text to me. I called to talk to Dave just now and he is not doing well with that news. I say, at least it's getting better. He says, how long will they try if they don't see improvement. So his spirits are low right now. Please pray for visible improvement the next time the doctors come in. Thank you guys.

I've been reading about hand surgery like Dave had. The problem he has is the arteries are working good. But the veins need to regenerate. The abrading and now leech therapy that he started today is to keep the blood that's flowing into his fingers from getting congested there (just like traffic) because it has no place to go. The veins in his finger need to regenerate soon so that process can start happening on his own. I just talked to him and he sounded better, but is concerned because we don't really know how long internal venous regeneration takes. The doctor just came in and wasn't optimistic. She said if the leeches don't work in the next 2-3 days, she's going to schedule surgery to remove all the dead tissue. I'm still believing for a miracle.

Thank you every one for praying for Dave.

Barbara, So sorry to hear about your brother's unfortunate accident!

When I was in High School, a young man, who was a refugee from Eastern Europe, lived with us.  He was a distant relative but, living with us, he became a part of your family.  When he learned English and felt comfortable to live independently he got his first job and he had a similar accident.  Medical care wasn't as advanced then as now and he lost all four fingers working with an electric saw.  It didn't keep him down and he found another job, a wife and had a family and a happy life.

When I think of your brother, I remember how sorry we felt for Joe.  Fortunately, the Drs. have been able to do a lot of repair work for Dave.  I am fervently hoping that all goes well.

Oh my, Barbara, just read about your brother. Log splitters and snow blowers are the worst contraptions ever! Even with " safety" bars etc., you never know what will happen. Prayers for his recovery. And l hope you are now able to get upstairs...or maybe it's time to install a " sewing station" temporarily in dining room.

Oh Barbara, that is horrible.  Will be praying for the "blood to flow" in those digits.  Also for the family to be able to endure the long healing process and give him the care he needs right now.  It is tough to sit in a hospital waiting and then to know how much pain he is in.  Keep strong girl.

and remind me please that the next time I say I am going to quilt on my DOMESTIC that I said that the last time .. and the time before that ... it is much easier to go to the LA ... and I can pick a pretty panto with neato thread  :)

Prayers for your brother-in-law, Barbara.

My niece, who is now up in Baileys Harbor, posted a photo of the snow from the patio door. It's 4 ft deep! Yikes!! It rained all day here and roads and driveways are flooded. I opened the door to take Indy out this morning and he ran back to bed. He came out to eat and use potty pads only.
