UFOs

If you're a REAL quilter, you have at least one UFO (unfinished object) and one WIP (work in progress) stashed in the closet or stacked on a shelf. Maybe you just need quilting suggestions, or maybe a fresh eye from a new online friend can help with block arrangements. How about a UFO swap? Any UFO conversation is welcome.

Mary ~ I would love any California rows !!

Update on UFO lone star log cabin ~ I started this in 2005-ish. Made the center star while I was working at the quilt shop in VA but never finished the log cabins. It was for me, my favorite Amish pattern. So to be able to use this now as a fundraiser for the church I attend is a good use of time/energy and fabric.  So, now I have 2 quarter sections done and rows sewn, and I had loaded several of the boxes in front of my design wall so I could see what this looks like ... I like it!

There will be a green border on each section as it goes around the star, but I have to put another color between the star and the sections to increase the size .. may put two additional, like a blue first, then a yellow, then the green ... this is actually coming together rather quickly. Seems like my 'vacation' went entirely too fast  lol

Thanks Riana, Yes, It's my embroidery machine. I have fun with it. Trying to get just the right design for the person it is going to. It takes time to put it on like any other thing. I think this wreath took about two hours.  I have to adjust the tension according to batting or stabilizer and use a smaller stitch count when it goes through batting. You'll enjoy it, have some fun!!

Barbara, what a lovely pillow! Did you applique this using embroidery machine? That's something l need to learn to do on mine.

My new tablet won't charge, so had to suffer thru many updates to get old one going again...so much reading to catch up on!

Dee, l'm sure you'll have that place whipped into shape by this time next week.

Linda...l agree w/Elizabeth, quilt by machine & bind in black or darkest other color to " contain" those prints.

Mary, safe travels...have fun!

Thank you so much Linda, Dee, Elizabeth and Mary. I appreciate you all and the work you do also.

Barbara I am in awe of all your work.

Elizabeth...what a happy puppy!

Dee, "Nalbinding" is a knitting like technique used in several cultures before they figured out how to work with a continuous thread.  Using a needle and about a yard of thread you sort of weave around your thumb and and hold with the rest of that hand. Using a loosely spun thread is supposed to allow you to keep adding lengths.  I need to get out some of my unspun fleece and make up something that is loose and not too well washed.  It is supposed to make a permanent mesh that felts well.  Watch a couple of the demos on U-tube.

Will be traveling for ten days starting tomorrow....stopping for lots of R by R rows if anyone needs a California one.

Barbara, the pillow is beautiful!  Does it accompany the quilt behind it?

I sandwiched a QOV this morning.  The person who pieced this top had trouble in 2 corners.  I pinned them down as best I could.  I will quilt it and then straighten the border. I wasn't given any extra fabric to fix the top.

I have a friend who took a quilt with corners like these to a long-arm quilter and she would not accept the quilt.

Linda ~ the carpets should be dry by early afternoon today, so will be taking things out of this house and start transferring things today.  Am going thru my cookbook rack now, dissecting and getting rid of things .. making a pantry area in the new house off the garage for things that will not go IN the kitchen .. and going thru the kitchen as I actually have 2 less drawers in the new kitchen and less cupboards as well .. this ought to be interesting ..

The quilt for the church fundraiser is the one I am working on.  The last strip is now cut for the log cabins and I can start putting the 4 sections today, the lone star center is already complete. That is why I chose this one.  Going for my stash bushters count!  And the handstitching on Cooper so I can mail it off this week .. his 8 month birthday is this month so I want to get it out the door :)

Back to sorting !

Elizabeth, love seeing doggies and their quilts.

Dee you must be exhausted and you're trying to sew!!!??? So when are you actually moving in? Sorry it turned out so filthy, but you will be happy once all the cleaning is done.

Barbara, I love, love the pillow!!!

Thank you Barbara .. this has been a long time coming ...

Mary .. tell me .. what is .. that word you used .. pre-knitting ???  Maybe we should have a skype class for this knitting round the table ..

Trying to do some handwork on the Cooper, but I hurt too much to hold the needle. And the neighbors are still shooting off fireworks and my female beagle is having panic attacks .. hard to believe she was hunting dog .. can bring me anything but loud noises, and she's puddy ..
