Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
Hello all you quilty friends! Want to join me in a CALENDAR QUILT SWAP? Everyone would make 12 identical blocks (1 to keep and 11 to share with your team). Each team would have 12 members representing the 12 months and each person would be assigned a different month. The block has to be representative of the month - color or design or materials. For example - in January something with winter themes - snow, penguins, polar bears, etc. In Feb - something with hearts or presidents. March would be Irish/green theme. April would be Easter. May could be spring/flowers. June - brides, graduation, etc. July - patriotic, red/white/blue. Aug - summer fun. Sep - school days. Oct - Halloween. Nov - Thanksgiving, fall. Dec - Christmas.
This swap will be for beginner quilters and beyond.
SIZE: 12.5 inches un-finished blocks
NUMBER OF SQUARES: You will get back 11 blocks - need 12 for a "quilt," and you'll want to make one to keep for yourself.
FABRICS: whatever fits your theme month - prefer not to mix flannels and cotton.
DESIGN: anything that fits your theme month - let's make this a usable quilt so take it easy on the embellishments
TECHNIQUE: pieced, paper pieced, appliqué, free form, touches of embroidery.
SWAP METHOD: Centralized.
hat means your calendar blocks will be sent to me - send me a friend request so I can send you my address. Along with your blocks send me a STAMPED self-addressed FLAT RATE envelope. I will use this to send the blocks back.
DATES: This will be where you will come for up-dates and any information about our swap.
SIGN UP DEADLINE: As soon as there are 12 players, a team will be formed and notices sent.
MAIL IN DEADLINE: ALL blocks must be in my hands by July 31, 2012 (I will be camping July 14-20 and will not have computer access, but my family will be home). Please - if you are an international player keep this in mind. Things happen, but it's not fair to make everyone wait. If you can get them done early, send them!
INSPIRATION: I looked up Calendar Quilts on the web and found lots of images. There are some beautiful images at http://www.google.com/search?q=calendar+quilt&hl=en&rlz=1C1...
You can also search SEASONAL QUILTS.
Please don't join if you're pressed for time or can't make the deadline. There's always next time!
If I have left anything out, or you have any questions, please ask!
YEA - WE HAVE 12! I put the months in a hat and drew them in the order names are listed below (actually, I used a box):
