It seems like so many quilters love scrap quilts.  I do love them as well, but I have a hard time making them.  They seem harder than a planned quilt.  I recently made a bunch of 4" fence rail blocks…Continue

Working on a scrappy quilt and I now understand why I "scrap" so many of them! I want to color coordinate my scraps the close my eyes and grab two squares method doesn't work with me! if I don't like the colors together I search until I find a pair I can live with. I am struggling but I will prevail! I will finish this scrappy quilt before it finishes me! lol

ahhh...but we can see that beautiful leafy vine quilting! that is wonderful. if you click on the pictures here it will take to another page w larger pixel count. or...on my ipad screen i can just "stretch" it to get great closeups! love the colored quilting thread. appears to be lavender. i did that w tulips in the black triangles of an amish quilt years afo. donated as school fundraiser.

Scrappy border quilt made for my aunt. You can't see in this picture, but I hand quilted a leafy vine design in the dark borders.

Today my favorite scrappy quilt is string quilting with a common color from corner to corner diagonally and dark strips on one side of this diagonal and light strips on the other side consistantly.  I like it because you can design with the blocks.

Hi Everyone! Very happy to be here & have spent way too much time reading (instead of working) and enjoyed every minute! Unfortunately, no net @ home so I can only check-in Tues-Fri while @ office.

terry! you so casually comment that you had your "gall bladder out yesterday"..! speedy recovery!

i am not a traditionalist in the strictest sense of the word when it comes to quilting. i love traditional blocks...but don' adhere to traditional olors or settings. i think that whatever you use it will "work" i lean toward dark for center...blak or dark tone of complementary color.

tell that fuzzy that the fabric is off limits till your surgery heals up a bit! lollol had the same issue w dh little doggie who just could not understand why he wouldn't snuggle her the way she loves....being held on his left hip...
......that he just had total replacement of lollol!!

I didn't mean that the diagram shown needed a third strip ..but in order for 1.5 x 3.5 to fit together as a square re rail fence then you would need a third strip...in essence in the diagram drawn the center sq is acting as your third strip but common to all re partial seam construction
