Permalink Reply by Lora Frisch on July 5, 2012 at 1:25pm Empire Quilters I don't belong, but I just looked them up. I had thought they were a Brooklyn group but I see they are meeting in Manhattan. September 8, 2012 is their next meeting.
Permalink Reply by Melanie Keith on July 8, 2012 at 8:50pm Guess I'll have to check out the two local guilds I found. These are some serious quilters - Q.U.I.L.T. in Albany and Quilt North in S Saratoga County. I googled quilt guilds and #1 hit listed several by state under www.quiltguilds.com - who knew?! Photos of their challenge projects are beautiful.
Permalink Reply by nyelphaba on July 20, 2012 at 9:02pm I belong to the Great South Bay Quilter's Guild. We meet in Islip and now will move to East Islip.
Why are they moving? Too many people for the venue?
Permalink Reply by nyelphaba on July 21, 2012 at 6:00am Not too many people, our guild bylaws allow a maximum of sixty members although we are allowed to have guests anytime. The venue we were in is somewhat costly and the community center in East Islip is cheaper, and luckily for me only a few blocks from my house. So when we begin again in September we will be in a new venue.
My guild is in a senior center about 15 miles from me. We're allowed 175 people by fire code, and we have about 150 now. It's called the Warwick Valley Quilters Guild, and it's been in existence for 30 years. We meet twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, with speakers at the 2nd meeting every month. If there's a workshop, it's on the 3rd Tuesday. Since we have the building every Tuesday, we also have UFO days; just come and bring your own work and hang out with friends.
