Hi Nancy! My very favorite knitted items are shawls. I hardly ever wear them, but I love to knit them! I usually drape them around my house to admire them. I have knit many "easy" ones, right now I knitting a complicated lace weight shawl from knit picks, it is so pretty but I am not sure I will ever get it done! It takes me about an hour per row, as I am on the wide bottom part. I have been working on it on and off for about a year. A good easy pattern for shawls is The Splendid Shawl from Lion Brand yarns. You can find it on www.lionbrand.com or search for it by name on Ravelry. I have made that shawl in about a week when I was on deadline. It is beginner's lace and pretty easy.

Hello.....very excited about joining the group! I'm a beginner knitter, find it easier on the hands than crochet.  I've knitted lots of scarves and crocheted lots of afghans.  Right now I'm knitting a baby afghan using the pom pom yarn.  It is looking good!  My goal is to knit beautiful shawls.  Does anyone have suggestions for shawl patterns??

Many times in the summer I work on Ganny Squares, then as the weather gets cooler, I sew them together....

I do more crocheting of afghans, then knitting, since it takes too long to knit them!  I also make lots of hats and scarves that I give to those less fortunate, and I started a Prayer Shawl/Lap Robe Ministry at my church, so I always have at least one of them in the works as well

Hi, welcome! I make afghans throughout the year. Most of the ones my patters are for crochet in a strip. So I only have it on my lap once for a few days or hours. But if I knit it that's another story.

i pretyy much only crochet afghans, so the lapful of yarn is for me a year round proposition, although i do try to do more crochet in winter and less in summer. but, when gift blankets are needed it doesn't much matter the season. one thing that helps is that i use 100% cotton yarn for all my croceting, so not quite as warm a prospect, even in July in Texas ;-)

I agree with this...I don't like having a lap full of luscious yarn in the summer even if the AC is on...LOL!  Although i do snuggle under one if I need a nap!!!~:)

Hello everyone, I am new to this group and wondered what is the favorite knitting summer project for everyone? I start my Christmas gifts this time of year. Ten sweaters for the grandchildren and socks, hats, scarves, ect. for friends.I try to save the afghan knitting for the colder months when I don't mind having a warm lap!
