I got a new book, 501 Quilting Motifs put out by editors of Quiltmaker mag.Hardcover w/ inner spiral binding. I reccomend it to anyone left with the "now what?"feeling when they read the instructions"quilt as desired".This will spark your imagination, and well worth the $25. for the borders alone! Cross reference as to subject matter & size at back, each pattern has a sq., border plus at least one other feature .

W-e-l-l!!!  I tried doing some hand quilting and I got so flustered that I put it away for today.  I tried using "Aunt Becky", but that was a definite flop.  I'll get it out again tomorrow and try again!

Welcome Glenda, remember no one is perfect just do the best you can and you will be happy with it. Relax and enjoy the process.

I wasn't able to get my muslin squares put together yesterday so I can practice hand quilting.  I'll do my best to get them done today and will post a picture of my attempts.

Welcome Glenda.  I almost always machine stitch my blocks, but hand quilt using a hoop.  I have 10", 14" and 18" hoops and use the one that will let me quilt a complete block.  Don't give up.  No one is perfect the first time.  Practice will make you better.  Then you can look back at the first quilt with pride, knowing that you persevered.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome.  I am going to prepare several blocks of muslin to start practicing on.  You gals gave me the boost I needed!  Thank you again.

Welcome Glenda - yes, hang in there. I've been hand piecing and hand quilting for 35 years. I have always done the "stab" stitch method due to severe pain in my hands (even when I was in my 30's). I often use a 16" hoop but also have a large Hinterberg Classic floor frame for my larger quilts. My stitches are quite good - but I gave up on perfection a long time ago. People I know beg for me to make them a quilt - I don't do it for the public - and never for pay. It's my hobby - but also my therapy and my pride. It does take a long time to get 100% comfortable with the process -but it is worth every minute of effort. Good luck - would love to see something you are working on.

Hello Glenda, hang in there, I'm a beginner too and agree with Susan, it takes practice. I love the peace and calm of hand quilting and I nowhere near do it perfectly yet, but it's my piece of work and I'm loving. I chose a patterned fabric and have done cross-hatching the centre and will stitch around the flowers in the borders. It's taken me a long time, I don't use a hoop but I've bought one for my next project. I want to improve all the time. My next ambition is to hand piece as well, as you may have gathered I don't have a great relationship with my sewing machine. I want that to change too. Good for you, keep going strong.
