Have any of you done thread painting? I'm not very familiar with stabilizers, but I know I don't want to use a water soluble stabilizer. What kind of stabilizer would use use with this? And does…Continue

For you, where does design begin? Do you have this idea lingering in your head? -- one that has been there all along but you've repressed? It's been happening to me a lot of late...in fact, it's…Continue

When color reacts with color, design begins to happen...I watch it all the time. Little tidbits of fabrics intermingling with other scrappy tidbits. As those tiny fabrics reveal friendships,…Continue

Dianne--We haven't met. As far as I know! My name (and my quilt) was in American Quilter magazine last May. My Beyond the Block mystery quilt was one of the three winners. I would say if you remembered that, you have an EXCEPTIONAL memory!
I retired early in May 2010 and have been getting back into full-time quilting where I left off in 2001 when I started a 3rd career as a teacher. I took classes at Des Moines in 2010, and at Paducah last year. I am fortunate to be able to stay with a cousin just outside of Des Moines, and my sister in Marion, Illinois, an hour from Paducah. That makes everything much more affordable. I also traded in my old van for a new Prius, so road trips are easy on the gas bill!
No Paducah for me! Only in my dreams...I'm thankful your teachings wind up in books because books I can afford!
Comment by Jeanette Leslie on January 17, 2012 at 4:10pm just flights are about $4000, then there's the rest...... I feel this is a fantasy only for me but as they say, dreams are free and half of the fun.
Comment by Dianne S. Hire on January 17, 2012 at 3:46pm Wow, Jeanette...New Zealand. Yes, it would be tres cher, but perhaps you will be able to come some day. It's the same with me, I live in Maine...it's expensive to fly because "ya can't get theah from heah" as the Mainers say.
GREAT, Cynthia...will be seeing you sooner than we can imagine. Your name is so familiar to me...how would that be possible...have we met? Makes me crazy now that recall has gone calling on the young!
BTW: I'm working hard on another book...so totally different than these last 2...will save it for a special announcement with pix. It's very exciting...am thrilled with every single bit of what is happening. Does that get you wondering?

Comment by Jeanette Leslie on January 17, 2012 at 3:02pm I'd love to go someday, If only it was not so far and therefore soooo expensive. We hear about this show from some of the Quilt shop owners here in New Zealand who attend and it sounds wonderful, I'll just have to keep dreaming.
I have already signed up to take a class with you at Paducah, Dianne. I'm working on a "playtime" project now. I will get some of the pieces together in the next couple of days and post some pictures and tell everyone about it. As usual, I started a new project before I finished the last one, so I am still putting together pieces so I can free up my design wall for "playtime."

Glad to have you aboard...will be interested in seeing your works, too.
Any chance you (or other members) are headed to AQS Padoooooooka this April? I'll be there with bells on, teaching classes, lecture, etc. Anyone out there?
