poem from www.quiltvisionusa.com
She Learned to Quilt on
MONDAY.
Her stitches all were fine
She forgot to make us dinner
So we all went out to dine
She quilted miniatures on
TUESDAY
She says they are a must
They really were quite lovely
But she forgot to dust
On
WEDNESDAY
it was a sampler
She says that stipplings fun
What Highlights What Shadows!
But The LAUNDRY wasn’t done
Nine Patches were on
Thursday
Green, Yellow, Blue and red.
I guess she really was engrossed
She never made the Bed.
It was wall hangings on
Friday.
In colors she adores
It never bothered her at all
That crumbs were on the floor
I found a maid on
SATURDAY
My week is now complete
My wife can quilt the hours away
The house will still be neat
Well, now it’s only
SUNDAY
I think I’m about to wilt
I cursed, I raved ,I ranted
Cause
the Maid has learned to QUILT !

I've done similar (from a much older book from library), only using the basting st. on sewing machine'. It's ok for simple shapes, but can get complicated when doing layers. With layers, it's best to draw on back of largest "underneath" piece , then do the method from there. When the unit's complete, the whole piece gets appliqued to the backing.
Comment by Karon Henderson yesterday Has anyone done back basting applique? Found this interesting method explained at http://blog.shopmartingale.com/quilting-sewing/back-basting-appliqu...
We were happy to get rain this year, as we reseeded lawn...but now the tap won't turn off...and l'm missing out on a lot of golf. Mind you, l'm babysitting 3 young grndkds. this week anyway, until 4 p.m. daily, so l'm too tired to golf or even sew in my room w/new lights.
Comment by Evelyn Boundy on Monday Chinese proverb.....Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps a singing bird will appear.
Great way to start a rainy week.
Happy quilting. Evelyn
