lollol! yup my beloved ipad went out on it's own, did it's own thing ...& now it's dead. i can wipe & install fresh ..but then i lose forever all my lovely bookmarks, pictures of my grand treasures and a whole lot more. :(( ..i've got my son checking on a way around the final death thing, he's a programmer, so until i see him nxt weekend i'm not giving up hope. i have a pc -win 7- custome build. i don't buy warrenties & have a fantastic computer guru in next town down the road. my son built my computers for years, but he's not doing that anymore, especially w two EXTREMELY BUSY li'l darlin's taking all of his free time now! when my pc died couple years ago i was w/o it for a couple of months while they tried to find the problem, they were able to extract all my records & files from the old hard drive for me & when they got my new custom built i reinstalled everything. except my software items like EQ ..still need to do that. but i have some health issues and my son got me an ipad so i can read while laying on the couch on "bad" days. unfortunately ...heeheehee ..it also take great photos, so i use it for my quilting, pics of my grand treasures, yard projects, etcetcetc ..and i haven't downloaded stuff off of it to my pc in too long. sigh! ...and i soooooo miss my hydropowered ebooks! he put me on his kindle account & i was in the middle of a great book in the middle of a great series ...sob!

oh, UGH!  your Ipad blew up?!!!  I've been 'tolerating' problems with my computer for a while... just wishing it won't 'die'...  I have an extended warranty on it, but, hate to take it in and 'be without' for too long, either!  :-(    Hopefully you'll be able to recover important things you need!

mary, i haven't really been too interested in folk art style wool appliqué, but did start a stash of wool & wool blends before our last move to do some miniature amish style quilts that i drafted patterns for based on some that i liked in some of my books. years ago while living in Pennsylvania i read an article in local paper that mentioned early amish quilts were sometimes quilted w yarn instead of thread & i thought 'YES!' that would be so cool to do a mini and quilt it w fingering wieght yarn. but ..that stuff's all still packed.

riana, my friend doesn't use cotton bg, she buys old clothing, felts it and uses the felted wool for appliqé shapes & background. after i saw what she was creating i decided that i would look for some wool in the thrift shops hubby & i frequent. decided to try a small project. finally told her that she buys/shops more than i do ..i never found any wool clothes at all. not even mens pants which i would love to get hold of ..the fabric weaves and appearance of the wool in men's slacks are so wonderful. perfect for a quilt.

Eileen you can make your own wool felt with wool roving soap n water but it is tough on my arms. It is fun to do. I get with my weaving friends n we did some wool felting it's fun and then you can get the colors you want. Raw wool dyed then felted.

thankfully, I am not interested in wool or machine applique at all.  this quilt is my 'test' - IF I can make a decent looking quilt with applique - I *may* consider more of it. If I can't figure out how to do 'the hard stuff' by the time I finish this one - I'll probably hang that technique 'up'.   I'm 'in' way over my head with several projects right now - but applique and free motion quilting are at the *top* of the lists (and currently 'in progress'!)   I know what you mean, Eileen - spending too much time on the computer... but..... ;-)

Wish l could find real wool in thrift shops, but alas, the rug hookers ( there's a lot of them here) always seem to beat me to it. l HAVE found a quilt shop in a town an hour away that carries wool in fat eighths, but it's pricey. I wonder how washable those items made with wool applique on cotton bg are?

Mary, you're doing very well with your appliques.l've been doing machine applique lately, for grands...but l ove doing needle turn mixed w/embroidery and piecing for my ''special'' quilts.

Lisa, I have a wool applique project going right now, as well as a Kim McLean one and a Blackbird Designs one. Add to that, I'm taking a class on Tuesday from Mark Lipinski which requires a ton of what he calls "pre-class cutting".

I spend way too much time on the computer! That's my biggest downfall. I read more about quilting than actually doing it!
